The Environmental Education Interpreter (Term, Part Time) is responsible for helping to teach curriculum-based outdoor/environmental education programs to students and audiences of all ages in ERCA’s Conservation Areas and offsite in other locations.
This position is classed as ‘Term’ as the tasks associated with this position are for a limited term and will not exceed one thousand, two hundred (1,200) hours in any period of twelve (12) consecutive calendar months.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Delivers curriculum-based outdoor/environmental education programs for students and audiences of all ages outdoors at Hillman Marsh, John R. Park Homestead and other locations, including program set up and clean up. Programs are most frequently for students JK – 8. However, some secondary and adult program delivery may be required.
Helps to foster positive relationships with community partners and teachers through a commitment to excellent customer service.
Responsible for opening/closing facilities on scheduled program dates.
Performs other job related duties and responsibilities consistent with the position as required.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Post Secondary education in Natural/Environmental Science and/or Interpretation
Fully bilingual - English/French would be considered an asset
Excellent knowledge of local flora and fauna
Demonstrated experience in natural and cultural heritage interpretation
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must provide Police Record Check for Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check (including Pardoned Sex Offender Database (PSOD)
Valid First Aid Certificate an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position is based on demand per week, typically up to 28 hours per week through spring and fall, including some weekend work. Some summer hours available based on programming needs. Holiday work may be required. There is no guarantee of full time hours and this position may be subject to temporary layoffs from time to time and/or alternate work schedules should business interruptions occur. Occasional schedule changes and overtime on short notice
Environmental conditions: Regular outdoor work is required with prolonged standing/ walking, negotiation of obstacles, and bending or stooping; and carrying equipment, lifting up to 30lbs, exposure to inclement weather, heat and cold, biting insects, poisonous plants such as poison ivy.
Hazards and Risks: Exposure to a variety household cleaning products that may cause eye/skin/respiratory irritation and allergens. Biological hazards that may include infections pathogens, bacteria, fungi or mold from insects, birds, plants, animals and humans. Slips, trips and falls on wet floors and uneven surfaces. Ergonomic hazards with bending, lifting, reaching, etc. Will be required to work alone for short periods of time (1-2 hours) to open/close facilities on scheduled program dates
