Watershed – Conditions Statements-Flood Outlook

This is a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook issued by the Essex Region Conservation Authority.

Weather forecasts are predicting wet and warm weather to move into the region Sunday December 28th, 2025. With this weather, there is a potential for rain in amounts up to 50 mm across the Windsor-Essex region and up to 25 mm over the Township of Pelee (Pelee Island). While the amount of snow and rain we've received recently has not been significant, ground conditions are wet and rain over 25 mm will create some ponding in low-lying areas. Smaller inland watercourses are expected to breach their banks if any large catchment areas receive upwards of 50 mm. Total rainfall is expected to occur over approximately 13 hours starting Sunday morning and ending overnight into Monday. Temperatures are expected to drop quickly starting Monday morning, leaving an additional risk of ice formation and jamming in smaller tributaries should there significant rain on Sunday.

People are still encouraged to take extra caution near watercourses with elevated water levels as the combination of slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water.

Officials will continue to monitor forecasts and field conditions and update this advisory as required.
