Watershed – Flood Watch
The Essex Region Conservation Authority advises that, due to the recorded rainfall that occurred overnight in combination with the additional forecasted rainfall today, the current Watershed Conditions Statement has been upgraded to a Flood Watch. Rain gauges across the region have recorded 20-30mm of rainfall overnight. Forecasts are now predicting an additional 20mm of rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible, this morning and lasting through the day. Based on the recorded rainfall, smaller watercourses are flowing near or at capacity. Additional rain could cause some to spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas. This Flood Watch will remain in effect until 12:00pm Thursday March 12, 2026.
People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events. The combination of slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water.
Essex Region Conservation Authority will continue to monitor forecasts. The advisory will be modified as required.
