Winter Holiday Traditions
Service Description
Celebrate the winter season as you explore the John R. Park Homestead! See the house and farm decorated for the holidays in natural materials gathered from the forest and farm. In this hands-on experiential program, students will learn about traditions including decorating, gift giving, and foods for celebrating as they make an ornament to take home and make and taste some food on the hearth and make a garland of ‘snow’ to decorate the classroom. Ring the sleigh bells as you learn about winter travel in the Park Family era. Enjoy an old-fashioned puppet show at the end of the program. This program is inclusive and can be adjusted to meet your group’s interest/needs. Curriculum & Outline Grade 1 – Roles and Responsibilities, The Local Community, Daily and Seasonal Changes Grade 2 - Changing Family and Community Traditions Grade 3 – Communities in Canada 1780-1850, Land Use and the Environment Grade 4 – Early Societies (Technology), Political and Physical Regions of Canada
