About the event

Join Shorebird Expert Jean Iron for a bird identification hike around the Hillman Marsh Shorebird Habitat. Bring your scope/binoculars for this incredible experience! Jean is well known to Ontario birders; she was president of the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) from 1995 - 2004 and edited OFO News for 14 years. Her special interests are shorebirds, grassland birds, gulls and bird identification. Jean’s strong interest in conservation led her to serve as a board member on Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas Management Committee and as a board member and co-author of the Ontario Shorebird Conservation Plan. She authored Shorebirds of Southern Ontario, and regularly publishes scientific notes on her field observations.

Jean has let tours in Honduras, Peru, Belize, Canada’s High Arctic, Galapagos, Costa Rica and French Polynesia, among other exotic locations. For her many efforts and her assiduous study of bird life, Jean received the Ontario Field Ornithologists' Distinguished Ornithologist Award in 2016.
