About the event

We are excited to host another tree planting event in West Windsor! Funding for this initiative has been provided by the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan. Thank you to the City of Windsor for providing this new and exciting tree planting location.

Event Details

The tree planting event happens along the trails of Malden Park near the new Gordie Howe International Bridge observation tower.  Parking is available at the Malden Park parking lots off Matchette Rd. Volunteers will then use the trail system to arrive at ERCAs event headquaters and community outreach trailer located at https://maps.app.goo.gl/nBHZFSyLVQgwWEV3A.  ERCA and WDBA staff will kick start the event with introductions and together we will walk as a group to the planting location.

FAQs and Planting Day Considerations

What can I bring to the event?

  • Please bring a reusable water bottle with you to the planting event.
  • It may be helpful to bring a towel, an extra pair of socks to change into after planting and some clean shoes for the car ride home.
  • While we have shovels, buckets, gloves and wheelbarrows to share, we highly recommend bringing your own shovel to this free event to ensure enough equipment for everyone.
  • Volunteer paperwork

What can I wear to the event?

  • The planting shift will take place rain or shine.
  • Dress for the weather. April can bring a wide range of wet to dry weather conditions.
  • We recommend dressing in layers, bring extra socks, a towel, rain pants and jacket, hat etc.
  • Wear sturdy footwear such as hiking or rubber boots that is comfortable. This location will be extremely muddy with rough terrain. We do not recommend wearing running shoes.
  • We encourage any participating Green Teams to wear their uniforms!

When will I be notified if the event is cancelled?

  • You will be notified the morning if the planting event is cancelled through the e-mail addressed provided upon registration. Event takes place rain or shine, and is delayed due to severe weather only.

How do I plant a large potted tree and seedling properly?

  • 50 large stock trees will be planted at this event.
  • There are many steps you can take to ensure the long term growth and survival of newly planted trees. Please take a moment to review the tree planting video below. How To Crew members will provide a demonstration of how to plant a tree properly at the event for all volunteers.
