About the event
Joseph is Ojibway from Wiikwemkoong. He is the Founder & Director of Creators Garden, an Indigenous outdoor and online education-based business that focuses on plant identification, beyond-sustainable harvesting, and teaching everyone of their linguistic, historical, cultural, edible, ecological and medicinal significance through experiences. He has learned from hundreds of traditional knowledge holders and uniquely blends this knowledge with an array of western sciences.
Joe Pitawanakwat is on a rescue mission: to catalog the names of birds in Anishinaabemowin, the Ojibwe language, before knowledge of these names – and what they mean in English – disappears forever. Join Joe in the Nature Centre at Hillman Marsh for an engaging and informative discussion & optional hike.
