About the event

Save the Date! Saturday November 4 at 10:00am. Pre-register to volunteer here!

The Essex Region Conservation Authority is pleased to share an  upcoming community tree planting event taking place in Harrow, Ontario.   Funding for this event has been provided by ADM Agri-Industries. The  event will take place on the greenway just west of Ferris Rd. Holes will  be excavated in advance to help with breaking the ground. Parking is  available across from the planting site at 2080 Ferris Rd. Event will  take place rain or shine, and will be delayed because of severe weather  only.

This project focuses on increasing tree canopy and biodiversity on a  portion of the Chrysler Canada Greenway that remains completely void of  trees. In total, there will be a mix of 300 small to large potted  native trees and shrubs to be planted.   We encourage pairs/teams to  sign up to plant one to two trees together and youth are welcome to  bring volunteer paperwork to the event for ERCA signoff on  participation.

FAQs and Planting Day Considerations

What can I bring to the event?

  • Please bring a reusable water bottle with you to the planting event.
  • It may be helpful to bring a towel, an extra pair of socks to change  into after planting and some clean shoes for the car ride home.
  • While we have shovels, buckets, gloves and wheelbarrows to share, we  highly recommend bringing your own to this free event to ensure enough  equipment for everyone.
  • Volunteer paperwork.

What can I wear to the event?

  • The planting shift will take place rain or shine.
  • Dress for the weather. Fall can bring a wide range of wet to dry weather conditions.
  • We recommend dressing in layers, bring extra socks, a towel, rain pants and jacket, hat etc.
  • Wear sturdy footwear such as hiking or rubber boots that are comfortable.

When will I be notified if the planting shift is cancelled?

  • You will be notified the morning if the planting event is cancelled through the e-mail addressed provided upon registration.

How do I plant a large potted tree properly?

  • There are many steps you can take to ensure the long term growth and  survival of newly planted trees. Please take a moment to review the  tree planting video below.
