Watershed – Flood Watch

The Essex Region Conservation Authority advises that a Flood Watch is in effect for the Windsor-Essex region. Forecasts originally predicted up to 40 mm of rain with heavy thunderstorms through the region for Tuesday August 27th; however, ERCA's network of climate stations has recorded over 40 mm throughout a large area within Windsor-Essex within the last 24 hours. Areas of northern Amherstburg and Essex, southern Tecumseh, LaSalle and the City of Windsor have received 40 to 50 mm, with some localized areas exceeding 50 mm at this time. Additional rainfall is expected throughout the morning of Wednesday August 28th. Some low-lying localized areas are expected to experience ponding and smaller watercourses like ditches and drains are expected to be flowing full.

People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events. The combination of slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water. People are encouraged to monitor local forecasts. ERCA officials will also continue to monitor forecasts and conditions and update this advisory as required.
